Christmas Service Project

Each year at Christmas, Zion students and families participate in a project to serve their neighbors near and far. In the past, my third graders have supported people who live across the world by raising money for Heifer International. Other years, they have supported an organization closer to home- St. Louis Crisis Nursery.

Again this year, our class will support the St. Louis Crisis Nursery by collecting items from their "wish list." This organization is "committed to preventing child abuse and neglect by providing short-term, emergency shelter for children whose families are faced with emergencies or who are in crisis." During the average 2-3 day stay, children receive 24-hour care, a medical exam and developmental assessment, and therapeutic activities.

The Crisis Nursery's "wish list" includes cleaning supplies, toiletries, toys, art materials, and certain foods. A full list of useful items was included in Friday folders, and you can also view it hereStudents may bring donated items to school from now until Friday, December 20.
